New Fave Podcast - Mystery Show

This past Friday night I hosted a girls night with some friends. We were all chatting about our weeks and catching up on life when my friend told me about a new podcast that she had been listening to, Mystery Show. She knew I was a HUGE fan of Serial (because she told me about that one as well) so she told me about her newest obsession. I love listening to Podcasts when I walk to and from public transportation for work, while I am on public transportation I read. It's a little schedule I have going for myself. Anyways, I started listing to Mystery Show and it's great. Each episode they dive into a mystery that "cannot be solved by going online". I love this because I think it is a great way to remember that not everything is searchable online and sometimes you have to step away from the computer to find things out, anyone remember encyclopedias?

There are 5 episodes so far and each is very unique, from celebrity heights to licenses plate meanings this podcast does not disappoint!

Fashion Friday meets Amazing Apps: Poshmark

Today your in luck because this post is basically a 2 for 1 deal! 1 amazing app which doubles as a great fashion find.

I have been on Poshmark for the last couple of months and I love it. I am a huge fan of thrift stores and other second hand & consignment shops. What I don't love is when I try to resell my clothes and get very little back. This is what brought me to Poshmark and my experience there so far is keeping me!

The app allows you to be in control of your listing and the price! Its as easy as taking pictures of your items, describing them and setting a price. The app is very much community based. Its fairly easy to grow your followers and you are able to share other shoppers items in order to show your love and be a good posh friend.

I highly recommend checking out the app for both buying and selling! There is everything from fast fashion items on the super cheap to great designer finds. Here are some tips I've picked up using the app!

Buying:

  • Not ready to pull the trigger? Like the item and it will be saved in your profile. This way you can easily check back on the item and you'll be notified when the price drops!
  • Bargain! Price to high? Make an offer, but don't lowball
Selling
  • Better pictures = better sales
  • Think about your pricing! Would you rebuy your item at that price? Is the condition of your item worthy of that price? Be fair.
  • Interact with those interested in your items!
  • Bundle items for buyers and you both save!
  • Share items to Posh parties in order to get to buyers looking for that particular brand/style
Have fun and enjoy! You can check out my closet here!

Amazing Apps: Balanced

Your phone is no longer your phone. It is a social media, web browsing, tv, radio, camera, super machine. It is complicated and helpful and distracting all at the same time.

In a world full of apps sometimes its nice to have one that promotes wellness and positivity. So this week I present to you, one of my new favorite apps: Balanced

Balanced provides simplicity and motivation. It is essentially an app that provides you with reminders and goals. In the free version you are able to set 5 reminders or goals for yourself, while in the paid version you can set an unlimited amount. The app provides a variety of examples such as; self improvement, read, see a friend, be present and on an on. You are also able to write in your own goals.

Once you set your goals you can choose how often you wish to complete them and the app will notify you of when you should be working on an activity. Once complete you can open the app and swipe right to mark that your done. You also have the option to skip an activity and the app tracks how often you do the activity and if you do so on time. This way you can keep track of how on task you have been. During the day the app also checks in with you, promoting mindfullness and wellness. It will often ask me: Are you living a balanced life? or What would bring you greater happiness today?

Again I love this app and the positivity it brings to me each day. As of now I have 4 reminders set, (I recently deleted my "Apply to Jobs" reminder as I just got hired!) my reminders are; Play some sport/exercise, Be adventurous, be thankful and watch a foreign film (to practice my Spanish).

What reminders would you set?

Amazing Apps: Lumosity

There are a zillion apps out there and more come out everyday, there are some however that are more amazing than others.

Lumosity is one of these amazing apps.

If your not familiar with Lumosity it is a great brain training app. Brain training you say, how could that be!? Well I'm not actually sure how it works but I can tell you that it is fun and easy to use. The app gives you a few games to play each day and keeps track of your progress. Some of the games involve math while others involve memory and spatial reasoning.

The app is free to download and gives you a variety of games to play and tracks your progress in each game, as well as tracks a few overall stats. If you want to take full advantage of Lumosity then you will have to purchase a subscription. This can be for a few months or an entire year. I didn't feel like a subscription was necessary so I stuck with the freebie version.

I try to play everyday but that does not always happen. I do however see improvement in my sharpness and ability with the games. Little by little you get better, it is a nice break in the day or a great way to get yourself going in the morning.

Amazing Apps : 7 Minute Workout

It's been a little while since we talked about our fave apps... our bad! Today we are highlighting a fab-u-lous little workout app. The 7 Minute Workout is a great find! It is super easy to use; you simply start the clock and it gives you twelve 30-second tasks (push-ups, crunches, wall sits, lunges, etc.) with a short break in-between. By the end of the 7 minutes you will be feeling great! And no excuses, it's only 7 minutes, easily completed during a commercial break! Check out how we've been using the app below.

Warm Up: Kira uses it as a warm up for a longer workout. It is a great easy way to start out and get your blood pumping. She will continue after the 7 minutes with more crunches, squats, pushups, or whatever else she is feeling.

Make It Your Own: Ashley will sometimes use the app as a great way to focus on one part of the body. It can easily become a seven minute arm, leg, butt, or ab workout. You can also customize the app to include your own favorite moves or stretches.

Traveling: It is the perfect workout to use while you are traveling because you don't need too much space or equipment. You really just need your body, a floor and a wall. And lucky for us, those seem to come pretty standard most everywhere we've traveled!

In Between Job Apps/ As a Healthy Mental Break: While Ash was applying to jobs she would do 7 minutes between appt. It is a great mental break and a much healthier one in comparison to watching 30 mins of an old Keeping Up With The Kardashian's episode! (We all have our guilty pleasures)

Another great option with the 7 Minute Workout is the option to add in different activities and expand the type of workouts avaliable! Ashley is really wanting to add the Pilates workout!

What are some of your favorite workout/health apps - we wanna know!!

Amazing Apps: Appy Couple

Image via Appy Couple

This coming October I am going to be the Maid of Honor at my cousin Nicole’s wedding. It will be a rustic-chic wedding in Northern California in the Sierras. I will be hosting a bridal shower soon, and we have a fabulous bachelorette party planned, both with posts to come!

Nicole and I via 2008

However, right now this is about her wedding app Appy Couple. It’s an easy-to-use app for any Bride-to-Be. It gives you space to inform guests about every part of your wedding. From attire, to location, to events. It is a great way to provide your guests with information avaliable right to their phones!

There is a space for the couple to share their story and include pictures, as well as a space to highlight the members of their wedding party! You can link it to your registry or local accommodations and activities. I think one of the coolest aspects of the app is the gallery; a place that guests can post pictures of the wedding! It is a great way for the couple to see all of your pictures without having to search Facebook or Instagram!

So if you are getting married, or know someone who is getting married try Appy Couple - it's great!!

Amazing Apps: Duolingo

Image via Forbes.com

Have you ever wanted to learn another language? With this great app it makes it so easy! A friend of mine told me about Duolingo and ever since I have been addicted. With Duolingo you have the choice of 5 different languages you can learn: Spanish, Italian, French, German, or Portuguese. You can just focus on one language or switch between them.

Duolingo features short exercises to help you build your skill set, including translating, speaking, listening, and writing. After each lesson it tells you which words or phrases were your weakest and when you do your next lesson (or retake the previous one) it focuses on those words. It is a great way to learn a new language, if you want to take it super seriously or if you are prepping for an international trip.
