Fashion Fridays: How To Dress Like An Icon

Happy Halloween!!!

On today's very special edition of Fashion Fridays we are showing you how to dress like some of the most fashionable ladies of the past and present.

Icon: Frida Kahlo

Pile on the flowers, embroidery and boho jewelry and you can easily become the beautiful and talented Frida. Don't be shy, pencil in that iconic unibrow and throw on a red lip!

Icon: Beyonce
Who wouldn't wanna be Queen B for a day! Grab a bodysuit and all black everything and your half way there! I'd say the other half of this costume is having the attitude of Yonce! BOW DOWN!

Icon: Josephine Baker

The beautiful Josephine Baker can be pulled off in many ways. Here we have a more modern look, also one that won't get you arrested! The sheer top and yellow skirt are a great nod to her iconic topless/banana skirt look. Add some great art deco accessories and glam up your makeup!

Madonna
Madonna's fearless & fun 1980's look can be achieved but items in your closet! A black crop top, full skirt, and combat boots are the base of the fit. Make sure to tease your hair and add a fun bow!!

Audrey
Audrey's look is classic and timeless. Achieve her Breakfast at Tiffany's look with a black dress, cat eye sunnies, and add a cat accessory for a nod to her nameless pet. Or for her Funny Face look throw on a black turtleneck and skinny jeans complete the look with a pony and bangs.

Anna Wintour
Fashion's sometimes scariest icon can be put together with a black skirt and blazer with a class black pair of pumps. Make sure to carry an issue of Vogue and wear some oversized sunglasses!

Halloween Stereotype

Happy Halloween Week!

I am a lover of all things Halloween related; costumes, carmel apples, decorations, candy! But seriously one of my favorite things about Halloween is Hocus Pocus!! If you haven't watched it yet , you must! It's been on TV a ton this week so I'm sure you can catch it!

I found myself relaxing on my couch, watching the movie and enjoying some Halloween treats, so it is safe to say I was a Halloween stereotype. But seriously who can dislike a Bette Midler musical number? And SJP?! Perfection!

We have some great Halloween posts coming up this week; Halloween Interweb Goodies, our favorite past-Halloween costumes, and a very special Fashion Icon costume inspiration for Fashion Friday!

Fashion Fridays: My Favorite Men's Fashion Blogs

I like keeping up with men's fashion for many reasons. I mean just look at this first picture, it should really speak for itself. But besides beautiful men, I also like to see what the men are up to and seek inspiration from them. Now more than ever I see men and women's fashion becoming less separate and the gender lines becoming more blurred. I love it. I love a menswear inspired look with touches of femininity. Here are some of my fave male fashion bloggers, Enjoy!

I AM GALLA: Beautiful man, Beautiful photos, Beautiful outfits. For a daily dose of this dapper dude, his Instagram is beautiful too

Cup of Couple: I came across this amazing couple a little while ago. They are aesthetically perfect. They do great lay outs of clothes and objects that often include their adorable dog! They live in Madrid and sometimes they post pictures of places I was able to visit last year so its a nice little reminder of my trip.

DapperLou:  Another great, visually and stylistically stunning blog is Dapper Lou. He has a great style and a great Instagram account, which is where I first discovered him. You may recognize him from his recent work with Banana Republic!

Closet Freaks: This is one of my newest finds in the mens department. I would probably dress most like Anthony out of the men featured today. If I was given the chance to steal his closet I probably would. He is very clean cut and modern but never boring, he makes great color and pattern choices.

Who are some of your fave male bloggers?

Oregon Eats - Elk Horn Brewery

Image via Elk Horn Brewery Facebook

While I was in Eugene last weekend I really wanted to visit some of their best local spots. I was hoping to get to a few new restaurants, try some local brews, and really get a feel for the city.

One place that did not disappoint was Elk Horn Brewery.

I had driven past it a couple of times on my way to campus, it is on a busy corner, has an eye-catching sign, and a great patio. I instantly knew I wanted to go.

Saturday night after the big Oregon vs. Washington football game we were starving and ready to chill for a bit. We thought that Elk Horn would be the perfect spot - and boy were we right!
House made cider!

The ambiance there is great, energetic staff greet you and are super knowledgeable about the beers on tap. They have a wide range for any drinker, I ended up with their house made crisp apple cider. I was also able to taste a couple of their other drinks too and they all were great.

Excuse my brother on the left! Just had to get an interior shot!

They have some standing tables and big TVs to watch while you wait to be seated. There is a lot to look at, animals on the walls, the cooks in the kitchen (the kitchen reminded me of one at summer camp, super open and industrial), and these fabulous antler chandeliers.
Fantastic menu!

Seriously how good does this Chicken and Waffles look?

Once we got our table on the patio (that had a fire pit and Edison light bulbs  running in the trees (adorbs).  The menu looked so good we didn't know what to order,  everything looked great! My mom and I decided to ditch our diet and we ordered the jalapeño hushpuppies and pork skins, both choices were great! Pork skins were nice and crunchy and the hushpuppies  were extremely flavorful.

If you ever find yourself in Eugene, Oregon please go to Elk Horn! They have only been open for a couple of months and would love the support!

A quick trip to Oregon

This past weekend I made my way up to Eugene, Oregon to visit my brother at college. He just started his Freshmen year at The University of Oregon, so my Mom, Grandma, and I decided to go up for Family Weekend.

We started the weekend with a quick trip to Starbucks for Pumpkin Spice Lattes of course, and then hit the road.

I have never been to Oregon before and the drive was gorgeous. So many trees, tons of farmland, and cute quaint towns.

We arrived in Eugene Friday night and headed downtown to grab a bite to eat. We ended up at The Davis, which is a chic restaurant with an extensive menu and great drinks. Seriously, everything on the menu looked amazing.

We walked down the street to Voodoo Doughnuts. This was one of my "must dos" while I was up there. It started in Portland and then expanded to a second location in Eugene. Its been made famous by appearing on various shows such as; No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, and Portlandia. I got the classic maple bacon bar which was just as good as it sounds

The gorgeous campus

My brother gave us a quick tour of campus on Saturday which was beautiful. It finally felt like fall. Colors changing on the trees, old brick buildings, and lots or families out walking their dogs!

The Willamette River that runs through Eugene

The rest of the weekend was spent at the University of Oregon football game, shopping (hello no sales tax!) and relaxing with the family!

I headed back to The Bay on Sunday night via Amtrack.  Traveling by train was so old-school and leading up to it I totally romanticized it. It wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't glamorous. Reminds me of the Sex and the City episode where Carrie and Samantha take the "deluxe sleeper" train across the country! It was an experience, that's for sure!

Ashley's Obsessed: As If

Eww... as if!

Oh Cher Horowitz, how you inspired so many young girls to use that phrase. I remember being in elementary school and "playing" Clueless with my friends. Seriously for my 7th birthday I remember getting the new Spice Girls cassette tape (whoa!) and staying up late to watch Clueless with my mom - late probably being 9pm!

Well now that I have grown up I still truly appreciate the movie, the fashion, the friendships, and the jargon. When I saw this "As If" print on Etsy I knew I had to order it! It's such a cute print, and is a chic nod to a fabulous catch phrase!

One of my fave parts from the movie!

Whats your favorite catch phrase from a movie?? Let us know in the comments!
